FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Junior Alex Kallgren (Dudley, MA) contributed to all three goals by scoring the first two and assisting on the third as the Eastern Connecticut State University field hockey team won for the first time in the last three games with a 3-0 Little East Conference decision over Framingham State University Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.
Ranked third all-time at Eastern (3-3, 2-1 LEC) in goals and points, Kallgren helped Eastern to advantages of 27-1 in shots and 15-1 in penalty corners as the Warriors completed their fifth straight shutout of Framingham (0-4, 0-3 LEC), having outscored the Rams 11-0 in those games.
Senior Samantha Scavo (Redding) and junior Maddie LaRusso (Enfield) combined on the shutout in net. LaRusso made the duo's only save, that coming four minutes into the second half with Eastern leading, 2-0.
Kallgren scored her second goal of the season 12 minutes into action on a pass from graduate student Brianna Passero (Trumbull) – the team-leading tenth point of the season for Passero. Senior Paige Schneider (East Lyme) set up Kallgren's second goal less than eight minutes later, and Schneider added insurance with her first goal of the year nine minutes into the second half on Kallgren's third assist of the year.
The win was the first of the year for Eastern on its opponent's home field.
Eastern visits Western Connecticut State University Tuesday at 7 p.m.
