WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Junior point guard Carlos Gonzalez (Springfield, MA) has followed up recognition as Little East Conference Player-of-the-Week by being named to the Team-of-the-Week, released Wednesday. Statistics were considered for the period between Dec. 17-30.

Gonzalez was one of three backcourt selections to the team, joining UW-Platteville sophomore Quentin Shields and Wesley College (DE) junior Brian Cameron. Named to the frontcourt were Albion College (MI) junior Caden Ebeling and Occidental College (CA) senior Zach Baines.

In four games – all on the road -- Gonzalez helped the Warriors to improve their record to 9-3 with three victories. Ranked second nationally in steals per game, Gonzalez averaged 3.75 steals, 21.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists in an average of 36.0 minutes.

Gonzalez, last year’s Little East Conference Defensive Player-of-the-Year and a first-team All-LEC pick, shot 46.9 percent from the floor, 41.2 percent from distance (14-of-34) and was 12-of-13 from the foul line in four games.

In two games at the Springfield College Naismith Classic Dec. 29-30, Gonzalez led Eastern in scoring (21.5) and rebounding (7.5) average, three-point field goals (9), assists (7) and steals (7). In that tournament, Gonzalez shot 51.9 percent from the floor, 50 percent from distance (9-of-18) and was 6-of-6 from the foul line in a 79-73 loss to No. 16 Nichols College and a 74-59 win over Springfield, an NCAA Final Four team last year. In 33 minutes against Springfield, Gonzalez had 14 points (four three-pointers), nine rebounds, four steals and three assists and turned the ball over only twice. In the second half against the Pride, Gonzalez had nine points, five rebounds and a steal without a turnover in 15 minutes. With Eastern leading by two with four minutes left, Gonzalez converted consecutive three-pointers to push the lead to eight and his rebound off a Springfield miss soon after set up an inside basket that made it 68-56 with under three minutes left.

Against Nichols, Gonzalez had a season-high 29 points, and a career-high five three-pointers along with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Against the undefeated Bison, Gonzalez was 9-of-15 from the floor, 5-of-10 from distance and 6-of-6 from the stripe. His seven tournament steals moved him into third place all-time with 210 in 72 games (2.92 per game), 18 behind the all-time leader.

In two games in Miami Dec. 17-18, Gonzalez averaged 21.5 points, 7.0 assists, 4.0 steals and 4.0 rebounds.

Gonzalez shared this past week’s honor as LEC Player-of-the-Week after winning the award outright the previous week.

Eastern plays the first of three straight home conference games Tuesday, hosting Castleton University at 7:30 p.m.
