Women’s Volleyball

Rookie-of-the-Week

Madison Bell, Fr., Libero, Salem

A second-time selection this year, Bell helped the Warriors secure their first No. 1 Little East Conference tournament seed in 12 years by averaging a team-high 4.43 digs in a 3-0 week which included a home sweep of the University of Southern Maine Saturday that clinched a share of the team’s first LEC regular-season title since 2006. The team leader this year in digs (337) and reception attempts (476), Bell handled 32 of 33 reception attempts for a .970 percentage with four service aces and eight assists during the week. Against Southern Maine, Bell handled a team-high 17 receptions without an error, shared the team lead with 16 digs, and served three aces.

Defensive Player-of-the-Week

Tara Shayler, Sr., D, Avon

The  wing defender played all 98 minutes when the Warriors recorded their fourth Little East Conference shutout, 1-0 in overtime Friday at Rhode Island College. With Shayler, Eastern allowed only four shots, only one of which reached goal as the Warriors gained a share of the Little East Conference regular-season title for the fourth straight year. In her first season as a starter leads all players in minutes played this year, an average of 86.3 minutes per match.

Men’s Soccer

Defensive Player-of-the-Week

Nick Starkowski, Jr., D, Marlborough

Second-time selection this year anchored a defense which ended the season with shutouts in seven of its last eight matches, allowing only one goal in the process. In 2-0 shutouts over Anna Maria and Rhode Island College, the Warriors allowed only ten shots to reach goal. In addition to playing 135 minutes, Starkowski scored the game-winning goal in each match, with a header off a corner kick in the ninth minute paving the way for the win over Rhode Island which gave the Warriors their fifth outright and seventh LEC regular-season title under 12th-year head coach Greg DeVito. In eight LEC matches, Starkowski averages 733 minutes and has scored four goals and helped the Warriors give up only five.

Men’s Soccer

Rookie-of-the-Week

Patrick Agyemang, Fr., F, East Hartford

Third time weekly selection scored his seventh goal in eight home matches Friday when the Warriors earned their fifth outright Little East Conference regular-season title under 12th-year head coach Greg Devito with a 2-0 victory over Rhode Island College. Agyemang scored on a one-timer from the left post in the 16th minute that gave the Warriors their 2-0 lead. Through the regular season, Agyemang is ranked first among LEC freshmen – fourth overall -- in goals (9) and first among LEC freshmen – fifth overall – in points (21). Four of his goals are game-winners. His goal total is the highest among freshmen at Eastern in 25 years.

Women’s Swimming

Swimmer-of-the-Week

Megan Lasto, So., Orange

Eighteen hours after winning the individual title at the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jay Pentathlon for the second straight year Friday, sophomore Lasto won all three of her events in a tri-meet Saturday at Bridgewater State University with Regis College. Lasto was additionally honored as the NEISDA (New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Swimmer-of-the-Week, released Tuesday. At USM, Lasto captured four of the five 100 yard events to successfully defend her title. At Bridgewater, last year’s Little East Conference Rookie-of-the-Year won the 50 freestyle (26.18), 200 freestyle 92:05.30) and 100 breaststroke  (1:13.32) and teamed with her sisters Maggie and Mollee and sophomore Tegan Ruschmeier for a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:59.87). As a freshman, Lasto was a four-time LEC Rookie-of-the-Week and two-time Swimmer-of-the-Week.
