In a 5-1 week, sophomore shortstop Sara Pisanelli of Wallingford batted .400 with eight hits, 13 total bases, seven RBI and six runs scored – all team-bests. Pisanelli, who extended her on-base streak to 16 in a first-game win over Western New England University Sunday, also handled 21 chances at shortstop with only two errors. In a sweep of Little East Conference opponent Rhode Island College Saturday, Pisaneli had three hits and three runs and drove in five runs, four of the RBI coming in the first game on a sacrifice fly and three-run home run. She had two hits in the nightcap against RIC eighth multi-hit game of the year. In a mid-week home sweep of Wesleyan, Pisanelli had two hits (including a double) in each game, and on the day, scored three runs and drove in two. She becomes the program’s third weekly LEC honoree, following Morgan Bolduk, who twice previously was named Rookie-of-the-Week. She becomes the program’s first LEC Player-of-the-Week since Alyssa Hancock on April 27, 2015.
Last year’s top freshman hitter with a .320 average, Pisanelli is third on the team this year with a .361 average, having started every game at shortstop and has batted third in the lineup in all but two games. She leads the team in hits (26), RBI (19), total bases (42), slugging (.583), doubles (7) home runs (3), and 43 assists. Her on-base streak of 16 and hitting streak of ten are also team-highs this season. Pisanelli leads the LEC in total bases and assists, shares the lead in hits and is second (by one) in RBI.
