SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- For the second time in less than 24 hours against a Little East Conference opponent, the Eastern Connecticut State University swim team swept all 11 events en route to an easy victory.
Saturday at the Chace Athletic Center Pool on the campus of Bryant University, the Warriors got seven first-place finishes from freshmen in posting a 113-76 win over Rhode Island College (0-2) in the Anchorwomen's home-opener.
Now 4-0 in duals this year, Eastern received a total of five firsts in individual events from Mollee, Maggie and Megan Lasto (Orange) and two firsts each from freshmen Saige Grace (East Hampton) and Kerry-Rose Buchanan (Southington).
In addition to contributing to winning 200 freestyle and 400 medley relays, freshman Maggie Lasto won the 400 individual medley and 200 backstroke – the first time those events have been contested this season. Freshman Megan Lasto was the individual winner in the 200 butterfly and 200 breaststroke – the first time those events have been contested this year – while junior Mollee Lasto captured the 50 freestyle and swam the opening leg of the 200 freestyle relay.
Grace swam the freestyle leg of the 400 medley relay and was also first to touch in the 100 and 200 freestyle, setting a personal-best time of 58.60. Buchanan anchored the 200 freestyle relay and topped her competitors in the 500 and 1000 freestyle events.
