WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- Freshman Megan Lasto (Orange) led the Eastern Connecticut State University women’s swim team with 36 points at the third annual Connecticut Cup Saturday at Wesleyan University en route to her fifth Little East Conference weekly honor in six weeks. In both the second and third reports of the year, she was named both Swimmer and Rookie-of-the-Week.
Lasto became the first Eastern swimmer to win an individual event at the meet when she outswam 11 competitors to capture the 400 individual medley in a time of 4:43.33, nearly four seconds ahead of Connecticut College junior All-America Maeve Wilber. In addition to her individual championship, Lasto was second only to Conn College All-America Mary Erb in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.87) and second in the 200 IM (2:13.76). All three of Lasto’s finishes were just off program records, with her time in the 400 IM the second-fastest time in program history and a little more than a second shy of the record of 4:42.25.
Lasto’s 400 IM time was the ninth-fastest among freshmen in New England this year, 28th fastest by a freshman in Division III and 96th-fastest time overall in the nation.
At Wesleyan, Lasto also swam the breaststroke leg of the fourth-place 400 medley relay (4:09.67) and 200 medley relay (1:54.60) and opening leg of the sixth-place 200 freestyle relay. All of her times were season-bests.
In addition to the 200 and 400 IM and 200 breaststroke, Lasto has also swam the fastest times on the team this year in the 100 IM, 100 butterfly (1:03.79), 200 butterfly (220.70), and 100 breaststroke (1:13.92).
