Women’s Volleyball / Defensive Player-of-the-Week

Madison Bell, Fr., Libero, Salem

At Geissler Gym, Bell helped the Warriors to their first Little East Conference tournament championship in 11 years by handling 43 receptions without an error and leading the team with 39 digs (5.57 per set) in seven sets in victories over Rhode Island College in Friday’s semifinals and Keene State College in the tournament championship match Saturday to stretch Eastern’s winning streak to eight. Against RIC, Bell received 20 serves and had 11 digs in three sets and against Keene, had 23 receptions and 28 digs – the latter figure her second-highest total of the season. Bell was previously named LEC Rookie-of-the-Week twice. Eastern (23-6) opens play in an eight-team regional of the NCAA tournament Friday at Johnson & Wales against the host Wildcats.

Women’s Volleyball / Offensive Player-of-the-Week & Rookie-of-the-Week

Anna Barry, Fr., MH, Andover

The six-foot middle was selected as both Offensive Player-of-the-Week and Rookie-of-the-Week after being named Most Outstanding Player of this past weekend’s Little East Conference tournament. In seven sets over the weekend, Barry attacked at .533 and shared the team lead in kills (28) when the top-seeded Warriors defeated Rhode Island College and Keene State College to claim their first Little East Conference tournament championship in 11 years. Barry had 14 kills without an error for a .737 attack percentage against RIC in the tournament semifinals Friday and matched her kill total with a .385 attack percentage in the title game against Keene State as Eastern ended UMass Boston’s run of three straight tournament titles. Barry is currently ranked first in New England and fourth nationally among freshmen in attack percentage. (.369) and 17th overall in Division III in that category. Prior to this week, Barry had been voted as the LEC’s Rookie-of-the-Week four times.

Women’s Swimming / Swimmer-of-the-Week

Megan Lasto, So., Orange

Last year’s LEC Rookie-of-the-Year, Lasto won four individual events and was second in a fifth and swam a leg of a winning relay Saturday at the University of Massachusetts Louise Goodrum Invitational to repeat this weekly award. After winning the Saint Joseph Pentathlon and all three of her individual events at Bridgewater last weekend, Lasto won the 50 (28.09) and 100 (1:03.05) butterfly, the 50 freestyle (25.89) and 100 individual medley (1:05.06) and swam anchor on the winning 200 freestyle relay Saturday, and was also second by .35 in the 100 breaststroke. Lasto also swam a leg of the 200 medley relay which was third (1:59.69). Lasto won the 50 freestyle in a field of 68 competitors, the 100 IM in a field of 55 and the 50 butterfly in a field of 48. A total of ten teams were involved in the non-scoring meet.
