Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. -- Senior midfielder Kelly Wallace (South Windsor) moved into third place all-time -- three behind the all-time leader -- with her 27th career assist and also scored a go-ahead goal as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer team played Trinity College to a 2-2 double-overtime non-conference draw Wednesday afternoon.
Wallace set up Eastern (6-6-2) senior forward Daniela Marchitto's (Orange) seventh goal of the season in the fifth minute to give the Warriors an early lead but Trinity tied the match twice as the teams played to a tie for the fourth time in the last seven years and for the seventh time in this 18-game series.
Senior keeper Mackenzie MacLeod (Northfield) made a career-high ten saves, two coming on close-range shots early in overtime. Marchitto's goal – which was set up by Wallace and by a shot crossing pass from sophomore back Whitney Mantel (Stamford) -- moved her to within five points of becoming the third player in the program's 27-year history with 100. It was the first point of the season and second in the career of Mantel.
Eastern ended a two-game losing streak.
Freshmen Abbey Lake and Kelsey Thomas scored goals for Trinity, which extended its winless streak to three (0-2-1).
Thomas scored the first Bantam goal on a direct kick that sailed just over MacLeod's head and just under the cross bar in the 26th minute, but Wallace returned the favor with an almost identical shot off the same situation seven minutes later to give Eastern the lead for the second time.
Trailing 2-1 at the break, Trinity tied the game in the 55th minute when Lake came up with the ball that had come free from MacLeod and quickly fired into net for her ninth goal in ten games.
Trinity (4-6-1) sophomore midfielder Elisa Dolan accounted for the closest near miss of the game with just under six minutes left in the first half, nailing the cross bar with a shot from left corner of the box.
Eastern visits the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference match Saturday at 3 p.m.
