Box Score MAHWAH, N.J. – Ranked No. 5 in New England, the Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team scored an "own goal" in the 67th minute and senior keeper Jordan Munsell (Waterford) made four saves to record his fourth shutout in eight career starts Saturday in a 1-0 triumph over Ramapo College at the Athletic Center on the Ramapo campus.
Eastern (3-0-0) scored the only goal of the match with a man advantage after Ramapo's Andrew Willcox was issued his second yellow card and automatic ejection 12 minutes earlier. The only goal of the match deflected off a Ramapo defender's head and out of the reach of rookie goalie Brian Petrunik.
The Warriors shut out out Ramapo (2-2-0) for the second straight year, coming off last year's 5-0 victory in Willimantic.
For Ramapo, Petrunik had even saves while senior Rob Santaniello -- the program's all-time leading scorer -- led the team with five shots, two on goal. Petrunik made four of his saves on shots by Eastern senior forward Matt Furman (Montville).
With his second shutout in three starts this year, Munsell lowered his goals-against average to 0.33 in just over 270 minutes.
Eastern opens at home against Mitchell College Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Nevers Field.
