PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Kyle Peterson (Ivoryton) tied the match with two minutes left in the first half and junior Timothy Jennison (Coventry) and sophomore Cooper D'Ambrosio (Andover) scored less than four minutes apart midway through the second half to carry the Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over Plymouth State University and its third straight Little East Conference regular-season championship.

Eastern (10-3-4, 5-1-1 LEC) entered the final day of the regular season trailing conference leader Massachusetts Dartmouth by two points, but the LEC-leading Corsairs were upset, 2-0, earlier in the day by homestanding Western Connecticut State University, which had won only one of six conference contests. The loss opened the door later in the day for the Warriors, who downed Plymouth (5-8-3, 1-4-2 LEC) for the seventh consecutive time.
As the No. 1 playoff seed, Eastern will host fourth-seeded Rhode Island College in one LEC semifinal match Wednesday at 2 p.m., while second-seeded Massachusetts Dartmouth will host third-seeded Keene State College, also on Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. The final is scheduled for Saturday at the site of the highest remaining seed.
Rhode Island overcame Massachusetts Boston in the LEC playoff race Saturday by scoring the game-winning goal witih 30 seconds left in a 3-2 victory over the Beacons in Providence. A total of eight cards were issued in the match, with RIC's Anderson Monteiro being sent off with a red card with 13 minutes left – two minutes after UMass had tied the match. The Anchormen scored the go-ahead goal 40 seconds after Lucas Ordosgoitia of UMass Boston was similarly ejected.
Eastern edged Rhode Island, 1-0, two weeks ago at Nevers Field on a goal by Mitch Power (Douglas, MA) with 17 seconds left. The Warriors had a 16-match LEC unbeaten streak snapped at Massachusetts Dartmouth last Saturday, and also trimmed Keene State College, 1-0, Sept. 28 at Nevers Field.
Saturday, Plymouth broke first when Ted Karlstrand knocked a header off a corner kick past Eastern freshman keeper Greg Walton (Brunswick, ME) midway though the first half. That lead stood up until Peterson returned the favor with a header off a cross from senior Carl Stensland (Storrs) in the 43rd minute. Jennison delivered his third game-winner of the season 24 minutes into the second half on an assist which was D'Ambrosio's first career point, and D'Ambrosio followed less than four minutes later with his first career goal on a ball from senior Luke Capezzone (Colchester) that gave the Warriors a two-goal lead with 17 minutes left.
Eastern dominated offensively with a 17-7 advantage in shots and also compiled a 17-1 margin in corner kicks. Walton needed only two saves to record his tenth career victory.
Under seventh-year head coach Greg DeVito, Eastern has won five LEC regular-season titles in seven years and four post-season championships in six years. The Warriors have never lost more than one conference game in a season under DeVito and have compiled a seven-year regular-season LEC record of 37-6-6. The victory gives Eastern at least ten wins every season under the current head coach. The Warriors are coming off last year's program-record 17 wins (17-2-1) and a fourth straight NCAA tournament berth.
