WESTFIELD, Mass. –For the second time in three games, senior midfielder Nicole Leonard (Rutherford, NJ) scored the only goal of the match – this time with 1:22 left in overtime -- and junior keeper Rachel Skelton (East Lyme) recorded her third shutout in as many starts this year as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer team edged Westfield State University in a non-conference match Saturday afternoon.

Unranked in New England after losing its only match of the season last Saturday, Eastern (4-1-0) played its third straight 1-0 match this season, ending a two-game losing streak to Westfield (3-3-0). The Owls are ranked No. 6 in New England and are coming off last year's undefeated regular season and NCAA tournament appearance.  Every match that Eastern has played this year has ended in shutout, while all three of Westfield's losses have come by 1-0 verdicts.

Saturday, Leonard contributed a goal or assist for the fifth time in as many matches this year, finishing off freshman midfielder Hailey Lehning's (Woodbury) feed with time running out in the second ten-minute sudden-death overtime session. The point was the first in the career of Lehning, who played 49 minutes off the bench.

Last Friday, Leonard had connected for the only goal of the match in a 1-0 win over Farmingdale State College in the first match of the Valiant Classic, hosted by Manhattanville College. Leonard had also assisted on the second goal in the team's 2-0 season-opening win over visiting University of Saint Joseph (CT) Aug. 30 and had also helped set up the final goal of a 4-0 win over visiting Fitchburg State University the next night.

Skelton made seven saves in net and has not allowed a goal this year in 288 minutes and 38 seconds.
