All Contribute in 98-53 Rout of Saint Joseph

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Freshman guard Julia DePoi (Brookfield) doubled her season scoring total with a game-high 17 points off the bench to pace six double-digit scorers as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team routed the University of Saint Joseph (CT), 98-53, Wednesday evening at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.

A winner of five straight, Eastern (9-3) connected on a season-high 11 three-point field goals and more than doubled Saint Joseph's (6-6) rebounding total on the way to a season-high point total. In their first home game in a month, the Warriors shot 60.0 percent from the floor and 61.1 percent from three-point range.

Having scored 15 points in seven games off the bench through the team's first 11 games,  DePoi equaled her season total of five three-point field goals against Saint Joseph on eight attempts. She was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc to lead a 55-point second half. In the second half, junior guard Danyelle Rodriguez (Willimantic) sank three of four three-pointers in putting up all ten of her game points.

With two injured regulars out of the lineup, Eastern  got contributions from all ten players in uniform. Eight players saw at least 20 minutes of action, all scored at least three points and all grabbed at least one rebound and all but two had at least one assist.

Sophomore forward Jill Ritrosky (Pittsfield, MA) collected her fourth double-double in the last five games with 13 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, and sophomore guard Brianna Leonard (Amherst, MA) posted her first double-double of the year with 15 points and ten rebounds, and sophomore post player Erin Brooks (Billerica, MA) followed with 11 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Victoria Pfohl (Trumbull) chipped in a season-high 11 points (hitting three of four three-pointers) and six assists. Junior guard Taylor McBride (Willimantic) tied her career-high with nine assists.

DePoi becomees the seventh different player in 12 games to lead the squad in scoring.

In the first meeting between the programs in 30 years last year, Saint Joseph had routed Eastern, 67-40. In that game, the Blue Jays held a +13 rebounding advantage over Eastern, which also missed 11 of 12 three-pointers and shot 28.8 percent from the floor.

Wednesday, junior forward Heather Framski (Prospect) led the Blue Jays with 16 points, sophomore guard Stephanie DeJesus (Meriden) adding ten.

 Eastern hosts Plymouth State University in a Little East Conference game Saturday at 1 p.m.
