HARTFORD, Conn. – The Trinity College women's soccer team amassed decisive advantages in shots and corner kicks, but Eastern Connecticut State University emerged with the important numbers on the scoreboard, getting the tying and go-ahead goals from freshmen eight minutes apart late in the first half to record a 3-2 non-conference victory Wednesday afternoon.

Averaging just 1.5 goals through the first 11 matches this year, Eastern (8-5-1) has totaled eight goals during a current three-game winning streak which includes victories over the nation's No. 9-ranked team (Amherst College) and Little East Conference foe University of Southern Maine, and Wednesday's victory over a Trinity (6-5-1) team which had carried a four-game unbeaten (2-0-2) against the Warriors into action.

The match was another installment in a tight series between the programs since 1994. It marked the 17th time in 20 meetings that the game has either ended in a tie or produced a one-goal margin of victory.

Trinity sophomore Kendra Lena's goal just two minutes into the match stood up until freshmen forwards Emily Becher (Brooklyn) and Nikki Basilicato (Guilford) struck eight minutes part in the final minutes of the first half to give the Warriors the lead for good. Senior midfielder Rachael Skinner (Uncasville) contributed her first goal in three years with 12 minutes left to push Eastern's lead to 3-1 before Trinity senior Karyn Barrett made it a one-goal match with seven minutes left.

The Bantams took the final three shots of the match following Barrett's goal -- two by Lena – but Eastern junior keeper Rachel Skelton (East Lyme) was not called upon to save any of those final three game-tying attempts.

Becher's goal was her team-leading eighth of the year and Basilicato's goal came off freshman back Maggie Bodington's (Stratford) corner kick and was her first since the first week of the season.

Skelton won her fifth match in nine decisions, making four saves.

Eastern hosts Rhode Island College Saturday at 1 p.m. in a conference match at Thomas Nevers Field.
