Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team broke a late first-half tie by scoring the final 14 points and went on to a 76-63 non-conference victory over Emmanuel College Tuesday night at the Jean Yawkey Center on the Emmanuel College campus.
The win is the third in the last four visits for Eastern (3-0) at the Yawkey Center over Emmanuel (1-2), an ECAC New England Division III Tournament qualifier last year.
Five players scored between 11 and 15 points and four had between six and eight rebounds for Eastern, playing its third game in the last four nights.
Junior forward Jill Ritrosky (Pittsfield, MA) and sophomore guard Julia DePoi (Brookfield) both had 15 points and eight rebounds for Eastern, with DePoi coming up with a key steal at midcourt and a defensive rebound seconds later after the Saints had sliced a 15-point Eastern lead to seven in the final 75 seconds. Ritrosky was 6-for-7 from the foul line.
Senior guard Kristina Forsman (Newington) also had 15 points and sophomore guard Jordyn Nappi (Southington) tossed in 14 points and junior post player Erin Brooks (Billerica, MA) came off the bench for 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Junior guard Sarah Higgins of Emmanuel topped all players with 20 points, seven coming on eight free-throw attempts, with 6-foot-1 inch senior forward Jennifer Bujnowski grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds. Higgins and Bujnowski were just 10-for-32 (31.3 percent) from the floor.
Eastern hosts Trinity College Thursday at 7 p.m.
