Box Score WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University men's basketball team held Connecticut College to one field goal in building an 18-point lead in the first 5:20 and was never challenged in an 88-60 non-conference victory Monday night at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.
Playing its sixth game in the first ten days of the season, Eastern (5-1) stopped Conn (2-2) on 33.9 percent shooting and forced 18 turnovers in downing the Camels for the sixth straight year. Led by junior guard Trachone Preston (Enfield) and sophomore forward Hugh Lindo (Enfield), the Warriors shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the game, 59.4 percent in the first half when they rolled up a 20-point, 46-26 lead.
Preston was 9-for-14 from the floor in totaling a game-high 23 points, Lindo 7-for-10 in scoring 16 points. Lindo, who dunked for five of his six first-half buckets, finished with 16 points and also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and blocked two shots. All five Eastern starters shot at least 50 percent from the floor. Freshman guard Tarchee Brown (Manchester) added 13 points (5-for-10 from the floor) and junior guard Kevin Leumene (Stamford) 11 points (5-for-9) and six rebounds.
Preston sank five of Eastern's seven three-pointers and also handed out seven assists.
In their last two wins, the Warriors are shooting 57.7 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from three-point range. In six games this year, Eastern has outscored its opponent by over 20 points per outing (averaging 82.0 and yielding 61.8).
Conn, playing without starting point guard Bo McKinley, got a team-high 16 points off the bench from freshman guard Lee Messier. Freshman scoring leader Isaiah Robinson was held scoreless from the floor -- primary through the efforts of senior Brandon Yarborough (Stamford) and Lindo -- until midway through the second half. The 6-foot-5 inch forward, who played only eight minutes in the second half after picking up his third personal foul in the opening minutes, finished with two points and six rebounds in 20 minutes.
Eastern competes in the University of Rochester Tournament Nov. 29, facing Stevenson University at 7 p.m. in the first round.
