Manhattanville (2-6) twice erased three-goal deficits, scoring three straight goals in a span of five minutes to pull even with 12 minutes left before sophomore Paige Schneider (East Lyme) connected on her third goal of the year with two minutes left as Eastern (4-1) ended a string of six straight losses to the Valiants by capturing their fourth straight match after an opening loss this year.
Eastern beat Manhattanville sophomore goalie Meghan Hughes three times before the match was nine minutes old, but the Valiants got one back before the half. Eastern freshman Alex Kallgren (Dudley, MA) netted her second goal of the match (seventh of the year) early in the second half to help the Warriors restore the three-goal edge before the Valiants battled back, tying the match in the 48th minute on junior Rylee McGuire's fourth goal of the season.
The winning streak is the longest in the 17-year history of the program and the 4-1 start is its best after five matches. Eastern was coming off a 6-1 victory Saturday against visiting Westfield State University, scoring its most goals ever in a Little East Conference match. The Warriors have now scored 11 goals in their last two matches, which represents a third of last year's entire season goal total.
Eastern visits the University of Southern Maine Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in a Little East Conference match.
