MANSFIELD, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University field hockey team dominated offensively and defensively, limiting Lasell College to one shot until the final seconds in a 3-0 non-conference victory Saturday afternoon at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.

The shutout win is the second straight for Eastern (2-1) in three days after an opening loss and improves its series record against Lasell (1-2) to 9-1, with the last two contests against the Lasers resulting in shutout wins.

Freshman forward Alex Kallgren (Dudley, MA), sophomore forward MaryKate Custer (South Windsor) and senior forward Deisy Naranjo (Washington Heights, NY) all scored goals, and the Eastern starting defense of juniors Jessica Oliveira (Danbury) and Mackenzie Brower (Granby), sophomore Alexandra Steward (Old Saybrook) and freshman Katy Jankura (Guilford) was stout in front of sophomore goalie Samantha Scavo (Redding). Scavo, who made two saves in her first career shutout a year ago against Lasell, was called upon for only one save until the final seconds, when the Lasers were awarded three successive penalty corners. She finished with three saves.

Kallgren, whose first career goal was the difference in Thursday's 1-0 win at Anna Maria College, provided the Warriors with the only goal they would need eight minutes into play, when she sent in a penalty corner and took a return pass from Brower, who was credited with her first career point.

Eastern made it 2-0 ten minutes into the second half on Custer's first goal of the season.  Junior forward Hannah Keiser (Danbury) sent a hard shot into the circle which deflected off sophomore midfielder Paige Schneider (East Lyme) and re-directed past Lasell  freshman goalie Denise Landry (New Milford) by Custer. Naranjo's first goal of the season came on a re-direct of a shot by junior midfielder Laura Chicorka (Enfield) with ten minutes left and rounded out the scoring.

Landry did her best to keep Eastern margin at one goal by making a pair of saves a minute apart early in the second half. She dove to her left to rob Kallgren in a 1v1 opportunity before sophomore midfielder Gabriela Meza (Norwalk) sent the rebound wide. Soon after, Landry stoned Keiser with a stick save. Custer's first goal of the second two minutes later finally gave the Warriors a two-goal cushion.

Eastern outshot Lasell, 25-3, including 18-3 in the second half.
