Box Score WESTFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forward Emily Becher (Brooklyn) scored with seven minutes left in the first half to lift the Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference victory over Westfield State University Saturday night.
Becher, an All-New England selection as a freshman, scored on the only shot that Eastern (3-1-1) put on net in the match against Westfield (1-3-0) junior keeper Anne Stack. Becher scored her fourth goal this year and tenth game-winning goal in 25 career appearances. Eastern is 13-2 in matches when Becher has scored. The goal was the 22nd in the career of Becher, who moved into the program's all-time Top 10 ahead of Taylor Buchanan and Laura Oberstadt.
Sophomore McKenzie Reimondo (Portland), an All-Little East Conference selection as a freshman, was credited with her second assist of the season.
Playing its home-opener Westfield outshot Eastern, 7-5. Eastern senior Rachel Skelton (East Lyme) made three saves for her second shutout of the season. Her first shutout came last Sunday when Becher scored the only goal of the match in a non-conference victory at the University of Saint Joseph (CT).
Eastern opens its conference season Saturday, hosting Plymouth State University at Nevers Field at 1 p.m.
