Box Score SALEM, Mass. – Freshman Nick Starkowski (Marlborough) scored his first career goal and senior Emmanuel Caicedo (Manchester) had two goals and freshman Dimi Dalardha (Hampton) two assists as the Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak against Salem State University to nine with a 3-0 non-conference victory Tuesday night at Alumni Field.
Starkowski gave Eastern (4-4-1) the lead in the 16th minute and Caicedo connected twice in a span of seven minutes early the second half on feeds from Dalardha in the team's eighth straight win over Salem (2-2-3). All three players are defenders.
The Vikings lost for the first time after two opening home wins and Eastern claimed its first road victory of the year.
Sophomore Ryan Murphy (Cromwell) and freshman Joseph Lucy (Shelton) combined on the team's third shutout of the year. Murphy made all three of the duo's saves. The appearance was the first in the career of Lucy, who closed out the final seven minutes.
The win is the eighth straight over Salem State for Eastern, seventh by shutout. Since tying the Vikings, 3-3 at Salem in 2008, the Warriors have allowed just one goal in eight wins.
Eastern returns to Little East Conference play Saturday at Western Connecticut at noon, looking for its third conference victory in as many contests.
