Box Score BOSTON – Senior guard Jordyn Nappi (Southington) scored ten of her game-high 27 points when the Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team outscored the University of Massachusetts Boston by eight in the third quarter, and senior center Lexis Foster (Groton) broke two program records for blocked shots as the Warriors won their fourth straight Little East Conference game, 90-67, Saturday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center.
Leading by six at halftime, Eastern (9-5, 4-1 LEC) shot 52.9 percent from the floor and limited UMass Boston (6-9, 2-3 LEC) to 28.6 percent in the third quarter, outscoring the Beacons 23-15 to take a comfortable 14-point lead into the final ten minutes.
The win is the ninth straight over UMass Boston for Eastern, which has defeated the Beacons in the LEC final each of the last two years at Geissler Gymnasium. The 90 points Saturday was the most by either team in the series since UMB won by a score of 93-86 in overtime ten years ago on its home floor.
Ranked eighth nationally in blocked shots per game (3.54) prior to the game, Foster broke her own program game record (by one) with eight blocked shots – recording at least one in each quarter. Her final block of the game gives her 54 in 14 games this season, one more than Ashley McFetridge in 29 games in 2008-09 and Sue Governo in 25 games in 1983-84, who had shared the record. Foster has 25 blocked shots in the last four games.
With the victory, the two-time defending LEC regular-season champion Warriors maintain a share of first place with Keene State College, which routed host Rhode Island College, 70-44, Saturday afternoon.
Nappi was 9-of-13 from the floor (3-of- 5 on three-pointers) and 6-of-9 from the foul line and also chipped in a game-high four assists.
