Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. – Freshman goalkeeper Kyle Boutot (Tolland) made eight saves in a second-half shutout of Trinity College but the Eastern Connecticut State University men's soccer team couldn't gain the equalizer over the final 15 minutes in a 2-1 non-conference loss Tuesday evening.
Making the fourth appearance of his career, Boutot started the second half in place of junior Ryan Murphy (Cromwell) and stopped all eight shots which reached net, but first-half goals by Scott Brazina and Henry Farr stood up as Trinity (4-9-1) won for the third time in its last four outings after a 1-8-1 start.
In his first career start, Eastern (7-7-1) freshman forward Danny Shayler (Avon) scored his second goal (in three games) in the 76th minute to cut Trinity's lead in half, and Boutot came up with five of his saves thereafter to keep the Warriors close. Trinity senior keeper Mateo Zabala made three of his four saves to protect the Bantams' one-goal lead.
Trinity outshot Eastern 10-3 in the first half (22-7 in the match) and Brazina and Farr connected on goals less than five minutes apart to stake the hosts to a 2-0 lead less than 18 minutes into the match.
Boutot had won his first collegiate game by allowing only one goal in 64 minutes in relief in his last outing in a 2-1 overtime non-conference home win over Babson College nine days ago. He now has a 1.16 goals-against average and an .882 save percentage in 155 minutes this season.
Eastern, which falls to 1-6 away from Thomas Nevers Field, has lost six in a row to Trinity – scoring just two goals in that stretch – and is 2-15-1 against the Bantams in the last 18 meetings.
Eastern returns to Little East Conference play Saturday at 4 p.m. at three-time defending conference playoff champion UMass Boston. The Warriors were the only team last year to defeat UMB in the regular-season (2-1 at Nevers Field), but were beaten by the Beacons, 7-2, in the LEC semifinals.
