WILLIMANTIC, Conn. – Freshman point guard Carlos Gonzalez (Springfield, MA) scored 16 second-half points to lead top-seeded Eastern Connecticut State University back from a 13-point first-half deficit for a 72-70 win over second-seeded Keene State College in the championship game of the 2017 Little East Conference tournament Saturday afternoon at Francis E. Geissler Gymnasium.

With its fourth LEC title win in seven finals appearances, Eastern (20-8) qualifies automatically for the NCAA Division III tournament.

Eastern trailed by nine at halftime but Gonzalez fueled a second-half comeback by scoring 16 of his career-high 30 points in the second half, going 8-of-9 from the foul line over the final 20 minutes. Sophomore guard Tyrell Arnum (Bloomfield) had nine of his 13 points in the second half.

With 5.5 seconds left, Keene inbounded to Ty Nichols, who drove the length of the court before putting up a runner inside the arc that bounced off the rim. Lindo pulled down the rebound as time expired.
