PLYMOUTH, N.H. --  The Eastern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team erased a three-goal deficit by limiting Plymouth State University to one goal over the final 28 minutes and completing its fifth undefeated Little East Conference regular season in 11 years with a 9-8 victory Saturday afternoon at Arold Field.

With the winning team finishing unbeaten in the LEC regular season and earning the No. 1 seed in the playoffs which get underway with first-round games Tuesday, Eastern (13-4, 6-0 LEC) outscored Plymouth State (9-3, 5-1 LEC) 5-1 over the final 25 minutes to end the regular season on a five-game winning streak (seventh win in its final eight) and snap the Panthers' nine-game winning streak and deny the hosts a ninth LEC undefeated regular season  since 2002.

Eastern won its fifth outright LEC regular-season title and has shared two others since 2007. Last year, the Warriors defeated Keene State College in overtime on the final day of the regular season to share the regular-season crown with Keene.

Eastern and Plymouth played their third straight one-goal game, Eastern winning by a 9-8 score at home last year before Plymouth eliminated the Warriors in the LEC semifinals, 13-12, also at Eastern.

As the No. 1 seed, Eastern opens with a semifinal-round home game Thursday at 6 p.m. against the winner of Tuesday's first-round contest between No. 4 Western Connecticut and No. 5 UMass Dartmouth.

With Eastern trailing 8-6 ten minutes into the second half, freshman Alyssa Powers (Ellington), junior Jenna Glynn (West Granby) and senior Caroline Regan (Niantic) scored four minutes apart to lift the Warriors into their first lead since early in the first half. After Glynn's goal tied the match with 14 minutes left, senior Devyne Doran (South Kingstown, RI) – last year's LEC Defensive Player-of-the-Year -- won the ensuing draw, then later picked up a loose ball following a save by Meg Brault on Powers' shot, and Regan potted the second attempt with 11:32 left. The goal was only the fourth of the season for Regan (first in four games) and came on her only recorded shot.

On its final seven possessions in an effort to tie game after Regan's go-ahead goal, Plymouth turned the ball over five times (two of the turnovers caused by Doran), and Eastern senior goalie Taylor Emmerson (Colchester) saved two – the second save coming on Sophia Guerriero's free-position attempt with 26 seconds left. Emmerson's interception with eight minutes left also caused one of Plymouth's five turnovers over the final 11 minutes.

Powers led Eastern with three goals, senior LEC scoring leader Paige Schneider (East Lyme) and junior Allison Wylie (Ellington) adding two each. Schneider, who has 64 goals on the season, did not score over the final 49 minutes..

Emmerson, the LEC leader in goals-against average and save percentage, made 14 saves, 11 coming in the first half when Plymouth unloaded 21 of its game total of 28.

Doran won four of the team's 11 draws and recorded four of the team's 13 caused turnovers. Schneider picked up four of Eastern's 15 ground balls.

The win total is the highest for Eastern in ten years and equals the third-highest total in a season in program history.
