Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. – All-New England Region forward Emily Becher (Brooklyn) recorded the 14th multiple-goal game of her career to move into third place all-time in points as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer team stopped a five-match winless streak with a 3-0 victory over Rhode Island College in the Little East Conference opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Since losing at the University of Massachusetts Boston on October 4, 2015, two-time defending LEC regular-season champion Eastern has gone unbeaten (18-0-1)in its last 19 LEC regular-season matches.
Becher finished with two goals against Rhode Island (1-4-0, 0-1-1 LEC) for the fourth consecutive season, and All-New England Region midfielders McKenzie Reimondo (Portland) and Maggie Bodington (Stratford) combined for three assists, with Reimondo setting up Becher's first goal midway through the first half and her second goal midway through the second half that pushed the Eastern (2-3-2, 1-0-0 LEC) lead to 3-0.
With Eastern leading 1-0 early in the second half, Bodington and senior back Krista Petersen (Wallingford) set the stage for junior midfielder Hannah Goodale's (Coventry) first career goal. Bodington's corner kick was headed off the crossbar by Petersen, but Goodale was there to bury the rebound. Reimondo's pass through the middle of the field sprung Becher for both of her breakaway goals.
Becher is ranked third all-time with48 career goal -- two shy of taking over second place – and her four points moved her into third place all-time with 106 points.
Eastern improved to 19-4-1 all-time against Rhode Island.
Neither Eastern goalkeepers – junior starter Kayla Labrecque (Westhampton, MA) nor sophomore Erin Collins (Millis, MA) -- were called upon for a save in sharing the shutout. Eastern outshot the Anchorwomen, 34-3, and was credited with all 15 of the game's corner kicks.
Eastern hosts Castleton State University Sunday at 2 p.m. in a non-conference match.
