HARTFORD, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team limited Roger Williams to four first-quarter points and eased to a 58-45 decision in the opening round of the Trinity College Tip-Off Tournament Friday night at Ogrodnik Court.

Easten (1-0) faces host Trinity College (1-0) in Saturday's 3 p.m. final. The Bantams routed Mitchell College, 80-50, in Friday's first game.

Senior forward Kelsey Santagata (Stamford) had 18 points (9-of-16 FG), eight assists and five rebounds and junior forward Mya Villard (Cromwell) 14 points and nine rebounds for the Warriors, who have won all ten games in the series With Roger Williams (0-1). The Hawks are coming off last year's 23-6 season and NCAA at-large berth. The Warriors were 12-15 a year ago.

Roger Williams missed 12 of 13 three-points and shot 30.9 percent from the floor, and Eastern turned 14 turnovers into 17 points and sank 11 of 15 free throws.

Eastern held RWU scoreless for nearly seven minutes in building a 12-point, 16-4 lead after one quarter. The Warriors got points from four different players during a run of 11 straight points (Santagata sinking two jumpers) and forced five turnovers while the Hawks missed all four of their shots in that stretch.

At 5-foot-4 inches, junior guard Julie Jordan (Sterling) shared game-high rebounding honors with Villard, with nine.

All four  reserves and five of the nine players to see action for Eastern were freshmen. Freshman starting point guard Julie Keckler (Trumbull) had five points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two turnovers in 26 minutes.

No RWU player finished in double figures.
