WORCESTER, Mass. – Eastern Connecticut State University's starters generated  most all of the team's offense and carried the Warriors to an 89-81 win over SUNY Potsdam in the consolation game of the Ted Coghlin Memorial Tournament in men's basketball Saturday afternoon at WPI's Harrington Auditorium.

 Led by sophomore guard Cory Muckle (Westbrook), Eastern's starters combined for 73 points as the Warriors – last year's tournament champions --split their two games in the season-opening tournament.

Muckle led Eastern with 18 points after scoring 17 in Friday night'86-79 opening loss to William Paterson and was followed by junior guards Jake Collagan (Wethersfield) and Carlos Gonzalez (Springfield, MA), freshman forward Seth Thomas (Norwich) and senior forward Leonel Hyatt (Greenwich).

Collagan had 16 points, Gonzalez 15, Thomas 14 and Hyatt ten. The  starters were 22-of-49 from the floor, with Muckle and Collagan both hitting three of eight three-pointers.

In addition to shooting 48.2 percent from the floor, Eastern converted 66.7 percent of its 36 free-throws, outscoring Potsdam (1-2) by the final eight-point margin from the stripe.

Eastern opens at home Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game against Connecticut College
