Women's Basketball: Five Reach Doubles as Warriors Scorch Aggies in Miami, 81-56

MIAMI – Sophomore forward Anna Barry (Andover) had her second double-double in as many days and added five blocked shots and a career-high eight assists to help lift the Eastern Connecticut State University women's basketball team to an 81-56 victory over Delaware Valley University Tuesday afternoon in a game played at Immaculata-LaSalle High School.

Eastern (6-2) won two games in Miami in two days by an average of nearly 25 points, allowing an average of only 43.5 points and limiting its opponent to 21.3 shooting from the floor and outrebounding them by an average of 15.

Coming off Monday's 53-31 win over Washington College, Eastern is now 6-0 away from home this year after handing Delaware Valley (1-8) its fourth straight loss in the first meeting between the programs.

The six-foot Barry had only four of her 12 points in the first half but grabbed six of her game-high total of 11 rebounds and blocked four shots over the first 20 minutes to help stake Eastern to a nine-point, 31-22 lead. She now has 29 blocks this year and 69 in 36 career games.

Leading by 13 after three quarters, Eastern got ten points from senior guard Lizzy Cretella (Cheshire) and canned 12 of 15 free throws in a 30-point fourth quarter that expanded the lead to as many as 29 points with three minutes left. Freshman  forward Mariah Dunn (Meriden) had four points (on free throws) and grabbed five rebounds in the fourth quarter and finished with a career-high ten points and career-tying six rebounds. She was 8-of-9 from the foul line in the game.

Sophomore guard Danielle O'Brien (Rockland, MA) led five double-figure scorers with a career-high 18 points. She hit half of her ten field goal attempts and had four rebounds and four assists and was 5-of-5 from the stripe. Cretella added 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting and helped Eastern to a +10 advantage in rebounding by pulling down six. Following Barry's dozen points, senior forward Mya Villard (Cromwell) had 11 points and seven rebounds.  

The Aggies were whistled for 24 fouls which led to 30 free throw attempts by Eastern, which converted 20. Freshman guard Shayne Glenn, the team's second-leading scorer this year, fouled out with two minutes gone in the fourth quarter and her team trailing by 15. She was held to seven points on 2-of-10 shooting -- nine points below her season scoring average – before departing.

In two games in Miami, Villard averaged 13 points and six rebounds, Barry 12 points and 12 rebounds with a 64.7 shooting percentage, leading the team in rebounds, assists (9) and blocks (7). Cretella averaged 11 points and 4.5 rebounds with a team-high four three-pointers. Dunn was 13-of-17 from the stripe, O'Brien and sophomore guard Jenna Serrantino (Cromwell) both 5-of-5 from the foul line.

Eastern visits Johnson & Wales University in a non-conference game Jan. 2, looking to stop a two-game losing streak on the Wildcats' home court.
