Shorthanded Warriors Make Run in Second Half but Drop 19-8 Decision to Bridgewater

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. – Victoria McDonough had four goals and three assists and won 12 draws to power the Bridgewater State University women's lacrosse team to a 19-8 non-conference victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Tuesday afternoon at Dever Park.

Bridgewater (3-0) scored the first three goals but Eastern (0-5) battled back in the second half, pulling to within five goals on a goal by senior Michelina Pinto (Groton) seven minutes into the second half. At that point, the Bears reeled of the next five goals over four minutes to move out to a 16-6 lead.

The Bears guaranteed themselves 16 more possessions in the game by amassing a whopping 23-6 advantage in draw controls, McDonough winning 12 of them. Elizabeth Ettridge led BSU with five goals.

Pinto had three goals and an assist and four draws, sophomore Sydney Hogan (Northford) adding two goals and an assist and junior Trista Kijak (Windsor) two goals and four ground balls and sophomore Alexa Jacobson (Marlborough) four ground balls. Senior goalie Jessica Purick (Riverhead, NY) turned aside 14 shots.

Eastern meets Vassar  College Thursday at 4:30 p.m. at Dever Park.
