MANSFIELD, Conn. -- On Saturday, Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer celebrated Senior Day at Rick McCarthy Field as it took on Plymouth State University in a pivotal Little East Conference matchup. Coming into the day, the Warriors (6-7-2, 3-2-2 LEC) were still battling for a spot in the Little East Conference Tournament with two conference games remaining. Coming away with a 4-0 victory over the Panthers (6-5-2, LEC 2-4-2), Eastern punched their ticket into the Little East Conference tournament and still have a chance to earn a first round playoff game at home.
Â
From the very beginning, the Warriors came out clicking on all cylinders when sophomore forward
Ashlyn Rogers (Portsmouth, RI) fired on senior goalkeeper Cat Robbins in the 7
th minute. A short while later, senior midfielder
Sierra DeCarli (Tolland) would hammer a ball on Robbins from around 30 yards out in which the goalkeeper made a sprawling save to deny DeCarli from scoring.
Â
As the Warriors continued to aggressive on the offensive side of the ball, Rogers would find senior forward
Carlie Dreyfus (Stafford Springs) between defenders before the senior rifled a shot on Robbins that was turned away. Eastern would finally break through in the 35
th minute when first-year forward
Briley Harnois (Attleboro, MA) made the most of her breakaway opportunity off the double pass made by first-year midfielder
Dani Rovalino (Simsbury) and DeCarli, burying her shot into the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
Â
Harnois would not be finished, as she was awarded a penalty kick in the 45
th minute following a foul in the box. The first-year forward would beat Robbins for her second goal of the day and sixth of the season to put Eastern in front by two heading into the break.
Â
As the second half began, sophomore goalkeepers
Emily Wallace (Smithtown, NY) would replace senior goalkeeper
Alexis Tyrrell (Torrington) in net. Neither team would produce a quality chance until the 73
rd minute when Plymouth State looked to change the momentum of the match. Facing off against senior midfielder Taylor Siewierski, Wallace would make a diving save to keep the Warriors ahead by two.

The Panthers would be awarded a corner kick which senior forward Sarah Hicks lofted into the middle of the box where senior forward Jordan Meier tested Wallace again but was up to the challenge. The biggest save of Wallace's outing came in the 77
th minute when a penalty kick was award to Plymouth State following an Eastern foul in the box. Wallace would deny the attempt by Hicks who would gather the deflection and fire high over the net which shifted the momentum backed to a fired-up Warrior team.
Â
Less than a minute after Wallace's momentum shifting saves, sophomore midfielder
Victoria Roman (Mexico City, MX) would join the goal party when her shot from around 30 yards out banged off the crossbar and into the net for her first goal of the season off a pass from sophomore midfielder
Alexie Root (Old Saybrook).
Roman would tack on her second goal of the game and season in the 80
th minute again off a pass from Root that sailed from left side of the field to the right and into the top right corner of the goal to put Eastern ahead 4-0 which would be the final score.

The Warriors currently sit in fifth place in the Little East Conference standings with 11 points, tied with Castleton University, which has a game in hand. Eastern also trails the University of Southern Maine, which is third with 13 points and one conference game remaining. There are still many scenarios in which Eastern could find itself anywhere from the third seed to the fifth seed in the Little East Conference tournament as the regular season concludes next Saturday, with the Warriors facing a crucial road matchup with UMass Dartmouth at Cressy Field at 1 p.m.
UMass Dartmouth (1-11-1, 0-6-0 LEC) visits Castleton Sunday looking for its first conference win and to break an 11-game losing streak following a 1-0-1 start. The Corsairs have been shut out in each of their last eight matches and have managed only three goals during their losing streak. The Warriors are 23-0-1 against UMD in the last 24 meetings since losing by a score of 2-1 in overtime at UMass in 1995.
