PLYMOUTH, N.H. – With 23 losses in its last 24 encounters against Eastern Connecticut State University, the Plymouth State University women's soccer team saved Seniors' Day to re-acquaint itself with the win column against the Warriors.
Freshman Emma Simkewicz scored her first career goal in the 63rd minute to lift Plymouth (2-1-0, 2-1-0 LEC) to a 2-1 win over Eastern (1-2-0, 1-1-0 LEC) in a Little East Conference women's soccer game at Arold Field Thursday afternoon.
PSU tallied the lone goal in the opening half, but the Warriors tied the score early in the second half when juniors
Haley Montesanto (East Haven) and
Olivia Rovalino (Simsbury) hooked up for their first goal and assist of the season, respectively.
Simkewicz, who played 40 minutes off the bench, tapped in the game-winner after a free kick to earn the win on a blustery, frigid afternoon when Plymouth recognized three graduating seniors and two senior co-captains who expect to return this fall to complete their eligibility.

Freshman goalie
Rachel Hughes (Columbia), last week's LEC Goalie-of-the-Week, made three saves in net for Eastern in her second career start, sustaining her first loss. One of three freshmen in the starting lineup,
Ashlyn Rogers (Portsmouth, RI) played 59 minutes in her first career start, putting one of her two shots on net.
In her first start of the season, junior Elena Register registered her first win to even her record at 1-1-0, making six saves
Plymouth had entered the game riding a nine-game losing streak against Eastern, having dropped nine straight at home to the Warriors and 23 of its last 24 in the series.
Eastern closes out the season at Rick McCarthy Field with conference games Monday against Keene State College at 6 p.m. and April 30 against Castleton University at 4 p.m.
