Women's Lacrosse: Hot Goalie Shuts Down Warriors in LEC

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The high-powered Eastern Connecticut State University offense which has averaged 20 goals per match en route to the program's best start, did little to strike fear into the hearts of three-time defending Little East Conference playoff champion Plymouth State University, which held the Warriors to one goal over the first 34 minutes and emerged with a 10-4 Little East Conference victory Saturday afternoon at Panther Field.

In only its second game of the season and first at home since 2019, Plymouth (2-0, 2-0 LEC) maintained its recent mastery of Eastern (7-2) with its fifth straight victory and tenth in the last 12 meetings in the series since the Warriors rolled up seven straight wins over the Panthers through the 2011 season.

Eastern brought a four-game winning streak into play and had thumped Castleton University, 21-4, in its LEC opener last Saturday at Rick McCarthy Field.

All-LEC senior midfielder Tristan Kijak (Windsor) caused six turnovers and won five ground balls, with sophomore Shay Ventresca (Oakdale) winning five ground balls and causing two turnovers.

Eastern's top four scorers, averaging over 26 goals each, were all limited to one goal apiece.
Senior goalie Meaghan Allard of Plymouth was outstanding in the cage making eight saves – many from point-blank range -- to help limit the Warriors' offense. Graduate student Sydney Dubois and sophomore Emily Santom each finished with three goals to pace the PSU offense, with Santom adding an assist for a game-high four points.

For its part, Plymouth maximized its opportunities, totaling its ten goals on only 15 shots.
Eastern hosts Keene State College in a Little East match Saturday at 4 p.m. – the first of three straight LEC home matches. The Owls (0-2, 0-1 LEC) dropped their conference opener, 13-5, at Western Connecticut last Saturday and visit Massachusetts Dartmouth Wednesday in a conference match.
