Women's Track & Field: Kriley, 4x800 Relay Win Titles; Warriors Land in Second Place in Little East Outdoor Championships

DARTMOUTH, Mass – Senior Brittany Kriley (Fair Lawn, NJ) and the 4x800 meter relay won championships and 14 individuals collected points in individual events that propelled Eastern Connecticut State University to a second-place finish at the 24th Little East Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship Saturday at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Kriley, who progressed from a last-place finish as a freshman in 2017 to fifth in 2018 to a tie for third in 2019, recorded a winning jump of 5-1 ¾ (1.57m) as the event's No. 1 seed to become the second Eastern female to win the event at the championship, following All-New England jumper Lauren Hultzman in 2012 and 2013.

The 4x800 relay also claimed ten points and became the second Eastern women's 4x800 relay in three years to win the title. The team of senior captain Lauren Bresson (Roxbury), sophomores Jill McGahan (Dedham, MA) and Kelsey Zator (Scotland) and freshman Elisabeth Rodil (Milford, NH) clocked a winning time of 10:47.46.

As a team, Eastern equaled its best finish in the championship, placing second for the second time in three years, with 125 points. The University of Southern Maine (158 points) unseated two-time defending champion Rhode Island College to annex its 21st team championship, while Keene State College was third (92) in the eight-team field.

Event winners are accorded first-team All-LEC honors and second-place finishers are named second-team All-LEC.

Kriley was among three Eastern athletes to earn All-LEC recognition in two events, also taking second in the 100 hurdles (15.83) as the No. 3 seed. In addition to running a leg of the winning relay, Bresson was second in the 800 (2:25.87) as the No. 1 seed, and Zator took second in the 1500 (5:18.71) as the No. 2 seed. Kriley's preliminary time of 15.54 in the hurdles broke Melissa Bard's 25-year-old program record of 15.80.

Additional second-team All-LEC qualifiers include senior Arlene Blackwell (Winsted), junior Maggie Santacroce (Bristol) and sophomore Wendie Stewart (Hartford). Blackwell earned the honor in the 3000 steeplechase (15:19.07) as the No. 2 seed, Santacroce in the 10,000 (43:08.64) as the No. 4 seed, and Stewart in the discus (116-3/35.43m) as the top seed.

With a first and second, Kriley was credited with 18 of the team's points in individual events, with Stewart and Santacroce adding 14 each, junior captain Manar Enany (Fairfield) 13 and Blackwell 11. Stewart recorded her points in the discus and shot, Santacroce in the 5000 and 10,000, Enany in the hammer throw and triple jump and Blackwell in the 3000 steeplechase and 400 hurdles.

The meet was the final one in the careers of seniors Blackwell, Bresson, and Jasmine Conduah (Fairfeld). In the meet,  Conduah was third in the high jump (4-11 ¾ /1.52m) that netted the team six points and eighth in the 100 hurdles (17.94),
