Anna Barry (Andover) and
Alaetra Long (Lincoln, NE) combined for 22 kills and senior
Meg Verizzi (Lebanon) had 29 assists and seven digs as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team swept Trinity College, 25-9, 25-18, 25-21 in the opening match of the Trinity College Invitational Friday night at Ray Oosting Gymnasium.

The win is Eastern's (4-0) fourth in the last five tries against Trinity (1-1) - second in that stretch by sweep -- and is Eastern's 11th straight regular-season victory dating back to 2019. The Warriors and Bantams had gone to five sets in each of the last three years, Eastern winning twice.

Barry led both teams with 12 kills and a .364 attack percentage, and senior
Abby Stern (Manchester) added eight kills and a  .316 attack percentage as Eastern capitalized on Trinity's .020 attack percentage in the match. Verizzi also had three service aces, as did first-year player
Cassie Parmelee (East Berlin), while Stern led both teams with ten digs.

Eastern jumped quickly Friday, attacking at .250 in the first set with five aces which forced five reception errors by Trinity, which attacked in negative digits (-.261). Verizzi served eight straight points as the Warriors reeled off nine points in a row to expand a three-point lead to 12, 18-6. During its defining 9-0 run, Verizzi served two aces, Stern had a kill, and Trinity committed six attack errors.

Eastern won all five of its matches this past spring while Trinity did not compete against outside competition last year and was 8-15 during the 2019 fall season.

Saturday at the Trinity Invitational, Eastern faces Simmons College at 10 a.m. and Westfield State University at 2 p.m. The Warriors open their Little East Conference season Friday, hosting the University of Massachusetts Boston at 7 p.m.
