Women's Soccer: In Scoreless Deadlock, Warriors End Skid vs. Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior keeper Emily Wallace (Smithtown, NY) made six saves to record her first career full shutout as the Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer team ended a four-game losing streak at the hands of Trinity College in a 0-0 non-conference tie Tuesday evening at the Trinity Soccer Field.

Although Eastern (1-1-2) was shut out for the fourth time in the last five meetings with Trinity (1-0-2), the Warriors salvaged a tie with the Bantams for the eighth time in the 26-game series. Four of the ties have been scoreless.

Eastern was coming off its first shutout loss of the season Saturday against nationally-ranked Babson College, 3-0, while Trinity was shut out for the first time this year.  The Bantams had opened the season a week ago with a 3-0 victory at defending Little East Conference playoff champion Western Connecticut, which has won five of the last six LEC playoff championships and had received votes in the USC pre-season national poll. Trinity had tied Hamilton College, 1-1, in its home-opener Saturday. The Continentals were ranked fifth in the first USC Region I poll.

Wallace, who has started all four of the team's matches this year, lowered her goals-against average to 1.29 in keeping the Warriors unbeaten (1-0-2) on the road this year.

Trinity junior keeper Mariana Cournoyer was called upon for only two saves in lowering her GAA to 0.33.
Trinity held an 11-4 advantage in shots and 7-2 margin in corner kicks.

Eastern opens its Little East season Saturday at the University of Massachusetts Boston at 1 p.m., playing its fourth road game in its first five matches. UMass is 0-2-2 overall and travels to face Babson  Wednesday. The Beavers are the top-ranked team in New England and rated 11th nationally.  Last week, UMB lost, 1-0, at Middlebury College, ranked No. 7 in New England, but was outshot, 32-2.

Eastern holds a 23-7-2 lead over the Beacons in the all-time series but has lost the last four by a combined margin of 7-1. Two of those losses came by shutout in the LEC playoffs in 2018 and 2019, with UMass going on to win its only LEC playoff title, 4-0, over Western Connecticut in 2019.
