FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team split a non conference twin bill with Worcester State and Dean College Saturday afternoon at Pieri Gymnasium to move to 10-8 overall.
Coming off two consecutive losses, Eastern (10-8) defeated Worcester State 3-1. Scores were 27-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23. The teams split the first two sets by a two-point margin before the
Warriors took set three by three points and hung on for another two-point win in set four over Worcester (9-12). The Warriors move to 8-2 all time vs Worcester State, winning eight in a row. Today's match was the first time during the eight match winning streak in which the Warriors dropped a set to the Lancers.
No set was decided by more than three points and each team led in every set but the Warriors were able to squeak away with three hard fought victories. First-year
Brooke Praskievicz (Moodus) had 11 kills, four aces and nine digs to lead Eastern. Junior
Taylor Smith (Bowie, MD) hit .389 with 10 kills, while junior
Paige Carlson (Milford) also had 10 kills. Sophomore
Liz Squier (Trevor, WI.) registered 26 assists and eight digs. Junior
Cassie Parmelee (East Berlin) had a team-best 18 digs.
In its second match of the doubleheader, Eastern lost in four sets to host Dean College (6-15). Scores were 26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-22. The match had 34 ties and 16 lead changes in a lengthy four-setter but Dean College came out victorious on its home floor. With the victory, Dean
College evens out the all-time record as the Warriors won their only previous meeting in 2017.
Senior
Paige Savitsky (Centereach, NY) led the Warriors with 15 kills, four aces and 20 digs.
Liz Squier tallied 31 assists and 23 digs. Sophomore
Taylor Thompson (West Point, NY) added 11 kills for the Warriors.
Eastern played without All-LEC outside hitter
Bella Johnson (Marlborough), one of the team's three players with triple figures in kills.
The Warriors return to Little East Conference action Wednesday by hosting Western Connecticut State University at 7 p.m.
