Men's Basketball: Warriors Drop Beaudry Opener, Play Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Warriors look to re-group Sunday against Medgar Evers College after losing their second game Saturday in the first four days of the season.
Box Score BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Wheaton College men's basketball team broke a tie six minutes into play and led the rest of the way in a 70-57 non-conference victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday evening in the opening round of the Jim Beaudry Classic hosted by the University of New England at the Harold Alfond Center.

Eastern (0-2) will meet first-time opponent Medgar Evers College in Sunday's 1 p.m. consolation game. The Cougars (1-1) lost to New England (1-1), 88-77, in Saturday's first game. New England will face Wheaton in Sunday's 3 p.m. final.

Coming off Wednesday's opening loss at Farmingdale State College in a game where it scored 80 points but allowed 95, Eastern shot just 36.2 percent against the Lyons – who were opening their season -- after sinking over half of its shots against Farmingdale. Eastern scored the first bucket of the game but never led again, trailing by as many as 23 late in the game.

Junior transfer guard Ty Calloway (Enfield) was Eastern's only double-figure scorer, with 11. The other four starters combined for only 22 points.

Markus Nordin and Chris Billone combined for 35 points for Wheaton, which out-rebounded Eastern by 12 and converted half of its 24 three-point field goal tries. The teams were meeting for the first time in 22 years – since the Lyons won, 94-87, on their home court.
