Women's Lacrosse: Vassar Never Headed in Victory over Warriors

Box Score
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. -- The Vassar College women's lacrosse team used a four-goal burst in a span of less than two minutes as part of an eight-goal first quarter and Eastern Connecticut State University never fully recovered in the Warriors' 23-12 non-conference loss Monday morning at Publix Sports Park.

Senors Jessie Pyrek-Bennett (Monroe) and Caroline Stent (Weatogue) scored 1:22 apart to cut Vassar's (2-1) early three-goal lead to one, but the Brewers answered with consecutive goals from Maddie Kretten and two teammates in less than two minutes as part of a 6-1 run that made it 10-4 in the opening minutes of the second quarter. An overall scoring run of 13-3 later pushed the Vassar lead to 17-7 a minute into the second half.

Stent led Eastern (1-2) with four goals and won nine draws, with Pyrek-Bennett, junior Kaylee Drobish (Wallingford) and senior Shay Ventresca (Oakdale) each adding two goals each. Three of Stent's goal came on free-position shots.  Sophomore Abby Parisi (Fairfield)  won three draws and caused three turnovers.

Ninteen Eastern turnovers helped Vassar to a 32-20 advantage in shots. Kretten (6 goals, 3 assists) and Emma Torkelson (5 goals, 2 assists) combined for 11 goals and five assist for the Brewers and each claimed four draws.

Sophomores Emma Alford (West Hartford) and Madeline Horkey (Montville) split 60 minutes in net, combining for six saves.

Eastern faces Marymount University Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Publix Park before opening at home a week from Thursday against Montclair State University at 4 p.m.
