Field Hockey: Hawks Knock Warriors Back Under .500 in Non-Conference Shutout

Box Score
BRISTOL, R.I. – Junior Hanna Timbrouck scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season and the Roger Williams University field hockey team limited Eastern Connecticut State University to four shots in the Hawks' 3-0 non-conference shutout Monday afternoon at Bayside Field.

Now 1-4 on the road this year, Eastern held Roger Williams's (10-5) 17-goal, 41-point scorer Chelsea King without a goal on four shots and ten-goal scorer Maddy Monahan to just one goal on three shots.

Coming off Saturday's 4-1 Little East Conference home win over the University of Southern Maine that lifted it back to .500 for the second time this year, Eastern (5-6) dropped back under .500 for the second time this year after dropping its fifth game in six tries in the all-time series to Roger Williams.

Timbrouck's goal less than five minutes into action gave the Hawks the early lead and the Hawks took a 2-0 lead into the half after Monahan's goal midway through the second quarter. Timbrouck struck again just  in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter to put the game away as the Hawks won for the third straight time on the heels of a three-game losing streak.

Senior goalie Kiana Webster (Raymond, ME) made five saves in the first half, and in her fourth appearance off the bench, sophomore Veronica McKenna (Wethersfield) made four over the final 30 minutes to keep the Warriors within striking distance while Jill Haudenshield and Hannah Brazil each needed only one save for the Hawks to post their sixth shutout, sending Eastern to its second shutout in the last three starts (third overall).

Three of Roger Williams' losses this year have come at the hands of nationally-ranked teams – two of them by a goal. Eastern and Roger Williams have played one common opponent. The Hawks routed Massachusetts Dartmouth, 7-0,  last Tuesday at home while the Warriors dropped their LEC opener to the homestanding Corsairs, 2-1, Oct. 5.

Beginning Friday at VTSU Castleton (10-4, 1-0 LEC) at 6 p.m., Eastern (1-1 LEC) plays four of its final five regular-season games in the conference. The Warriors host Keene State College (12-2, 3-0 LEC) Oct. 26, visit Western Connecticut State University (5-9, 1-2 LEC) Oct. 30 and close by hosting Plymouth State University (5-6, 1-1 LEC) Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. Keene, Plymouth and VTSU Castleton were seeded 2-3-4 in last year's LEC playoffs, with Keene reaching the title game after trimming Plymouth State in the semifinals. Castleton dropped a 2-1 overtime decision in the semifinals to eventual champion University of Southern Maine.
