PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer team played its second consecutive Little East Conference scoreless draw, tying with Rhode Island College Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Warriors (2-6-2, 0-1-2 LEC) were looking to start a new winning streak against the Anchormen after falling to the in 2023 by a score of 2-1, snapping a previous eight-year winning streak. The shutout was the third in the last four outings for Rhode Island (6-4-1, 1-1-1 LEC), which was coming off a 3-0 LEC shutout of visiting Plymouth State University Saturday.
RIC outshot the Warriors 16-10 having 15 of them in the second half. The Warriors had nine corner kicks while the Anchormen had just one.
In her fourth career start, first-year goalkeeper
Alex Ignatowicz (Coventry) played all 90 minutes and had career-high eight saves, seven of them coming in the second half. The shutout was her second straight and extended her personal scoreless streak to 246 minutes dating back to a 3-2 LEC home loss to the University of Southern Maine.
Rhode Island goalie Chloe Angelone had three saves.
This week, RIC senior forward Tayla Salome was named the Little East women's soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week for her two-goal performance in the team's 3-0 win over Plymouth State.
Eastern host VTSU Castleton Saturday in a conference match at Rick McCarthy Field at 1 p.m. The Warriors (0-3-2 in its last five matches) are 1-5-1 at home. The Spartans (6-5-0, 2-1-0) ended a three-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 3-0 LEC victory at Keene State College. The Owls are 3-2-0 away from Dave Wolk Stadium this year.
