Box Score MANSFIELD, Conn. – Worcester State University sophomore forward Ava Lemanski scored the lone goal of the game in the opening four minutes to get the win over Eastern Connecticut State University Tuesday evening at Rick McCarthy Field.
Lemanski's goal was her first of the season and was assisted by senior forward Maddie Breur. It also gave the Lancers their first win of the season after starting out 0-2.
This physical game had a total of 29 fouls and issued one yellow card to Eastern's
Olivia Mullings (Newington).
With multiple chances to tie it in the second half, shots from Eastern's
Katelyn Herbert (Bethpage, NY) and
Lilly Simpson (Norwalk) both just missed and hit the crossbar. Worcester State outshot the Warriors 13-12.
Warrior goalkeepers
Alex Ignatowicz (Coventry) and
Kaeden Dublin (Maple Grove, MN) came up with key stops to keep the team in the game and had 3 saves each. The Lancers had a chance to increase their lead when Breur passed it again to Lemanski, but was shot right into the hands of Dublin.
The Warriors return Saturday to face Coast Guard for a 1 P.M. game on Senior Day.
