Women's Soccer: Warriors fall to Skidmore at home

Box Score
MANSFIELD, Conn- Skidmore College senior Ella Stone carried the Thoroughbreds with three goals over the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors in a 3-1 game at Rick McCarthy Field Saturday afternoon.

Skidmore took an early 2-0 lead with two goals coming within 3 minutes of each other. Both goals were scored by Ella Stone and assisted by sophomore Abby Lewis. The momentum was going Skidmore's way in majority of the first half due to their defensive pressure on the Warriors.

However, the Warriors came out in the second half with a fresh start and a lineup change. In the 45th minute of the game, Senior Daria DiBiasio (Richmond, RI) scored the Warriors single goal for the game. DiBiasio had not started the game but started the second half. This goal was assisted by Senior Hailey Cocca (Stratford), who had originally started the game on defense before being moved to forward.

Freshman goalkeeper Alex Ignatowicz (Coventry) had game high 4 saves, including a key stop for the Warriors late in the game. With a chance to tie in the 58th minute, Senior Olivia Mullings (Newington) shot went high.

Skidmore's Abby Lewis had a free kick from well outside the box, which Eastern's Ignatowicz had originally saved, however, she got knocked down and couldn't hold on. That's when Ella Stone came and sealed the deal with the final goal with an open net.
