Women’s Soccer: Two Second-Half Strikes Lift Eastern Past Worcester on the Road

WORCESTER, Mass. — Fueled by early second-half goals from first-year forward Michaela Gasparri (Prospect) and sophomore Faith Corona (Durham) 138 seconds apart, Eastern Connecticut State University women's soccer surged past the Worcester State University Lancers Wednesday evening in a non-conference match at John F. Coughlin Memorial Field.

 Corona notched her first career goal, while Gasparri recorded her team-leading ninth goal and team-leading fifth assist. Goalkeeper Kaeden Dublin (Maple Grove, MN) earned her first win since her first start of the year Sept. 17 and second full shutout (she has also shared two) as Eastern closed out its sixth win in its last eight matches. After winning two road games last year, the Warriors are now 5-3-1 away from Rick McCarthy Field.

  • In the 50th minute of the match, Gasparri received a long ball from defender Jordan Fabry (Lisbon) just near the top of the box to cut past the Lancer defense and fire a low shot into the right side of the net for Eastern's first goal, breaking the 52-minute scoring drought.
  • Less than three minutes later, Katelyn Herbert (Bethpage, NY) pushed into Worcester's defensive half and played a short pass to Gasparri, whose quick touch set up Corona. Eastern (3-0-1 LEC), the only unbeaten team in the conference, hosts the University of Massachusetts Boston (5-6-3, 1-2-1 LEC) for a Little East Conference matchup Saturday at 1:00 p.m. EST. It's the first of four straight LEC matches (three at home) which closes out the regular season. Boston tied Westfield State University, 2-2, Wednesday night at home (Eastern edged Westfield, 1-0, Sept. 17 at McCarthy Field). Boston was picked for second place in the LEC Coaches' Pre-Season Poll, Eastern fourth. The Beacons are 1-5-2 in their last eight matches and are 2-4-0 away from home.Eastern is undefeated (3-0-1) at home. The Warriors lead the all-time series, 24-8-3, but are 1-5-1 against UMB in the last seven encounters. The teams played to a scoreless tie at McCarthy Field in 2023.
