Field Hockey: Emma Sanson Joins Program's Elite Group of All-Region Qualifiers

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. –  Eastern Connecticut State University forward Emma Sanson (Thomaston) – who helped the Warriors to their first undefeated regular season in Little East Conference competition this past fall – continues to accrue conference, regional and national honors.

Following recent selections as the third player in program history to be named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Senior Team and as a first-team all-conference selection, Sanson has been voted as only the program's sixth selection to the NFHCA All-Region Team, announced Wednesday.

A two-time All-LEC pick in her career, Sanson has capped her four-year career with a second-team selection to the NFHCA Region II Team, which is comprised of 16 first-teamers and 16 second-teamers. Sanson was one of three players voted from the Little East and one of only two second-team forwards, joining Elsa Copeland from Bates College.

Sanson concluded her 75-game career with 37 goals – tying Alex Kallgren's all-time mark. Her 87 career points rank her second to Kallgren's 93 and her 13 assists rank her seventh all-time. This past year, she was second in the conference in goals (15) and points (35), her point total setting a season record and her goal total equalling  the season mark.

Sanson has become the program's third All-Region in the last five years and sixth overall, all earning second-team honors. Previous selections were freshman forward Sharon Kilpatrick in 2001, Alumni Hall of Famer Mo Deegan as a junior and senior midfielder in 2003 and '04, and senior forward/midfielder Brianna Nolan and senior defender Bryce Makula, both in 2021. Kilpatrick and Deegan were voted to the New England West Region Team and Nolan, Makula and Sanson to the Region II Team.

This past fall, Sanson helped the Warriors to their perfect regular season (6-0) in the Little East and to their first No. 1 seeding in the Little East playoffs and a final record of 12-9.

Sanson did not miss a match in her career and concluded by sharing second place all-time in appearances and tied for fourth with 73 starts, having started the final 63 consecutive games of her career. In addition to her on-field accomplishments, Sanson has earned NFHCA Scholar of Distinction honors each of the past three years for having a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.90 (the Scholars of Distinction listing has not yet been announced for 2025).
