Women's Lacrosse: Warriors Surge Early (Again), Rout USJ for Third Win of Year

Box Score
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Eastern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team continued its fast start out of the gate this year, outscoring the University of Joseph by six goals in the first quarter and rolling to its third straight opening win, an 18-5 non-conference victory Tuesday evening at the USJ Athletic Complex.

Twelve different players contributed points – three submitting the first points of their careers -- and first-year goalie Maizie Rukat (Manchester, VT) won her third decision as the Warriors (3-0) opened with three straight wins for the third time in the last five seasons.

The Warriors outscored the Blue Jays (1-2) 7-1 in the first quarter and 11-1 in the first half and now own a 17-7 goal advantage in the first quarter this year and a 22-4 goal advantage in the first half of their last two games.

Graduate Kaylee Drobish (Wallingford) and senior Abby Parisi (Fairfield) combined for nine draws to power the Warriors to a 19-7 advantage in that department, and junior Alex Vizzini (Vernon, NJ) amassed ten shots to help Eastern to a 43-9 advantage in that category.

Sixteen of Eastern's shots came in the first quarter, where Parisi, Vizzini and first-year player Hannah Seltzer (Westerly, RI) all scored twice, with Vizzini also contributing an assist.
Vizzini (4), Parisi (3) and Drobish (3) combined for ten goals, with Drobish adding two assists. Sophomore transfer Tori Mitchell (Vernon) and first-year players Nina Cirianni (Whitehouse Station, NJ) and Jocelyn Kennedy (Southington) were credited with their first career points, Mitchell's coming in her first game.  Cirianni had two goals, Mitchell a goal and assist and Kennedy an assist.

Junior Katie Campbell (Denver, CO) helped Eastern to a +8 advantage in ground balls with a team-high four, Drobish and Vizzini adding three each while Drobish accumulate three of the team's ten caused turnovers.

Parisi's first draw control on the first play of the match was the 100th of her career.

Rukat made two saves over the first three quarters before giving way to senior Emma Alford (West Hartford) with Eastern in charge of a 12-3 lead.

Eastern opens its home season Saturday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference match against SUNY Maritime College (1-1) in the first meeting between the programs. The Privateers, 10-6 a year ago,  are coming off an 18-6 win at Ramapo College this past Saturday. Maritime reached the championship game of the Skyline Conference tournament last year, losing 13-10 to Farmingdale State College.
