Women's Lacrosse: Warriors Show Offensive Improvement But Suffer Defeat At Westfield

Box Score WESTFIELD, MA. – The Eastern Connecticut State University Women's Lacrosse Team (2-5, 0-1 LEC) suffered their fourth loss away from home this season in Tuesday night's match against Westfield State University (4-5) at Alumni Field. The Warriors scored twice as many goals than they managed in their lone Little East Conference match of the season against Southern Maine on Saturday, but lost tonight's game 17-10.

An early run from the Westfield State Owls put the Warriors in a hole 5-2 hole after the opening quarter. Hannah Seltzer (Westerly, RI) leveled the game at one a piece after the Owls struck first at home. Seltzer was the main attacking threat for the Warriors and scored four goals on eleven shots. Ella Huard (Southington) cashed in on her opportunity to score with just 45 seconds remaining in the first.

Eastern's defense allowed just three goals from the Owls in the second quarter, a number the Warriors were able to match in both quarters of the second half. In goal for the Eastern today was Savannah Goodness (New Fairfield) who played just one game in 2025. Goodness played for all 60 minutes and recorded five saves in net.

Interestingly, the Warriors had just 12 turnovers compared to 20 from the Owls and caused 13 turnovers compared to Westfield's four caused. Eastern also had 23 ground balls, beating out Westfield's 16. Alexa Coty (Old Saybrook) led all players in multiple categories, recording five ground balls and causing three turnovers. Coty did not commit any fouls or turn the ball over.

Grace Saldaña (Colchester) scored an unassisted goal with her only shot of the game with 4:44 remaining in the third. Her goal started an even 6-6 finish to the game on the scoresheet, but it was not enough to get past the Owls, who look ahead to a meeting with Mass Maritime on Friday night.

The Warriors will take on UMass Boston on Friday at 1 p.m. for their second Little East Conference match of the season. The game will be played at the UMass Amherst Mount Ida Campus. Having lost their first seven games of the 2026 season, the Beacons have won their last three, including an 11-7 victory over Rhode Island College in their first LEC game this year.
In 2025, the Warriors welcomed UMass Boston to Rick McCarthy Field and defeated the Beacons 16-5, heading into halftime up 12-0. The Warriors used ten different goalscorers to dismantle the Beacons, including seven returning players for this season. UMass Boston finished the 2025 season with a record of 6-10 (1-7 LEC) and did not qualify for the LEC Playoffs.
