Steve CervizziA  long-time area resident and Springfield College graduate, Steve Cervizzi previously spent 21 seasons as an assistant coach at Eastern and Trinity College prior to re-joining the staff in 2014. Through 2022, he has served on the staffs of NCAA Division III national championship teams at two different institutions.

During the 2022 national championship season, Cervizzi was honored with the Kevin Burr Assistant Coach Award, presented by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) to an active New England assistant coach who exhibits the integrity and dedication to the game of college baseball that the late Kevin Burr demonstrated throughout his career. Burr was an assistant coach in 2005 and 2006 at Tufts University who died suddenly at the age of 54 in 2007.

In his 30-year coaching career at the college level, Cervizzi has helped 18 teams qualify for the NCAA tournament, with seven of them (three at Eastern, four at Trinity College) capturing regional championships and advancing to NCAA Division III national tournaments. At Eastern, Cervizzi has also contributed to three Little East Conference tournament championship teams and three LEC regular-season titlists under former coaches Matt LaBranche and Brian Hamm.

In six years prior to his return to the staff in 2014, Cervizzi helped Eastern to five NCAA tournament appearances, two of which resulted in regional championships and national tournament berths. As an assistant at Trinity for 15 years, Cervizzi helped the Bantams to nine NCAA Division III tournament appearances, four  regional championships between 2003 and 2009, and the 2008 national title.

A 1973 graduate of Springfield College and former athletic director and four-sport head coach at Windham Tech, the Storrs resident joined the Eastern baseball staff as a volunteer assistant in 1991, later serving as the program’s pitching coach under former head coach Bill Holowaty.
