After departing from the Sports Center at 3:15 a.m. flying from Bradley to Miami, we landed in San Jose, the capital of the Republic of Costa Rica. Drove to our hotel the Holiday Inn San Jose-Escazu, where we checked into the hotel for the first of two nights, and settled before our training. We had the opportunity to practice on the beautiful stadium, Nicolas Macis, up on the mountains. Then finished it off with a wonderful dinner and went to bed to get rested for our match against AD Carmelitas.
We woke up for breakfast and pre-match talk before heading to Carmelitas' newly-refurbished stadium, Estadio Rafael Bolaños, to play against its reserves and some first-team players. The first match of our campaign started off well with a 2-2 draw, thanks to goals from juniors Nick Starkowski and Zach Kulman. Following the game, we travelled to the La Paz Waterfalls, which are among the 110 beautiful waterfalls of Costa Rica. We finished the night off with some dinner and dancing at a restaurant on top of the mountain/in the clouds.
Editor's note: Additional events planned for the week-long stay in Costa Rica before returning to campus August 15 are a community service project, visit to the volcano hot water springs, a tubing adventure tour, a canopy zip-line tour, a morning visit to one of the many beautiful beaches in Costa Rica, and another Friendly against a local team.
