A right-handed pitcher, sophomore Morgan Bolduk (Vernon)was named national Pitcher-of-the-Week May 8 by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA). The day prior, she became the first player to be named top pitcher and top player in the same week in the Little East Conference after allowing only five hits in four complete-game shutouts over 25.0 innings as the Warriors rolled through the Little East Tournament May 2-4, defeating two-time defending champion University of Massachusetts Boston, 8-0, in five innings in the championship game at UMass Dartmouth to claim itheir fifth tournament title in ten years. Seeded third, Eastern defeated No. 4 University of Southern Maine, 8-0 in six innings Thursday on Bolduk’s one-hitter, downed No. 5 UMass Boston, 3-0, Friday, on another one-hitter, and moved into Saturday afternoon’s final when Bolduk (15-1) avenged her only loss of the season – April 27 by an 8-5 score – with a two-hitter over No. 2 Plymouth State University. She became the first pitcher in the program’s 22-year history to throw as many as four shutouts in a tournament. Ranked sixth nationally in ERA, Bolduk (15-1, 0.83) lowered her ERA by 0.25 in the tournament. Bolduk had missed six starts with injury after pitching shutouts in three straight starts in mid-March, returning in a starting role to pitch a complete-game four-hitter in a 4-2 win at Salve Regina University April 23. Starting with Salve, Bolduk has allowed runs in only one of her last eight appearanes. Last year’s LEC Rookie-of-the-Year and a first-team All-LEC pick at pitcher, Bolduk was named Pitcher-of-the-Week once previously this year.
