Caroline Brasa begins her eighth year associated with the collegiate game – fourth as an assistant coach following a four-year playing career – as she returns to the staff of head coach Denise Bierly.
The East Hartford resident spent the 2015-16 season as an assistant coach under head coach JR Fredette at Albertus Magnus College, the Falcons winning 14 of 26 games and earning the No. 6 seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament. In 2016-17, she joined the Eastern staff and helped the Warriors to a third straight Little East Conference regular-season title, thirds straight LEC tournament finals berth, and third straight NCAA tournament selection.
Brasa enjoyed a celebrated playing career as a 5-foot-9 inch forward at Western Connecticut State University, where she was recognized in the Little East Conference season-ending awards program each year. A member of the LEC All-Rookie Team, Brasa earned spots on the All-LEC second team as a sophomore and junior before being voted to the All-LEC first team following a standout senior year.
In her first season as a fulltime starter as a senior, Brasa led the LEC in offensive rebounding (6.7), was second in scoring (15.5), third in overall rebounding (8.6) and was fourth in free throw percentage (80.2). She led the Colonials that year in scoring, rebounding and three-point field goals (34), among other categories.
In four years, Brasa ranked among the LEC Top 10 a total of 15 times in nine different statistical categories.
Brasa, who helped Western to a four-year record of 68-39 (32-24 LEC), ranked 17th all-time in the program at the time of graduation with 1,012 points. She averaged 11.3 points and 5.3 rebounds with 126 three-point field goals in a 90-game career.
Brasa is the sister of former Eastern volleyball letterwinner Jacqueline and daughter of former Eastern baseball letterwinner Ken.
Brasa earned her B.S. Degree in Communication with a minor in Psychology from Western in 2015.
