Diego Lopez joined the coaching staff of first-year head coach Sarah Tompkins as an assistant coach in the spring of 2022 and will continue in that role in the fall of 2023.
Lopez formerly served in a volunteer capacity as director of operations between the fall of 2020 through the fall of 2021 on the staff along with Tompkins at Quinnipiac University under head coach Dave Clarke, assisting primarily with fitness and team data and during training sessions and competitions. He also was involved with Clarke with Connecticut FC.
“Diego brings a variety of experience having worked with players at the youth, collegiate and national team levels,” says Tompkins. “His knowledge and passion for helping players develop will have an immediate impact on our student-athletes.”
Focused upon the area of sports performance at the youth, college and national levels for many years, Lopez owns performance facilities in Wethersfield and East Windsor and has also coached and served as lead trainer with CFC and has directed numerous youth development clinics.
In the fall of 2021, Lopez served as assistant varsity coach when the 12
th-seeded Wethersfield High School boys' soccer team won the Class “L” state title, allowing only one goal in the state tournament and defeating Fitch High School in the final.
Lopez graduated Magna Cum Laude from Central Connecticut State University in May of 2021 with a B.S. Ed in Physical Education and was a recipient of a Ebenezer D. Bassett Humanitarian Award from Central in April of 2019.
